Book Club Post 2

Up to this point of the book Mr. and Mrs. Watson have received a phone call from Mrs. Watson's mom from Atlanta. Ever since the phone call Mr. Watson has been buying new parts to fix up the Brown Bomber. He even bought a radio for the car that by the reactions of the family members seemed to be a big deal in their time. From this I pose some questions for my book club group:

Why do you think Mr. Watson is fixing up the car? Do you think they are planning on going back to Georgia?

In the previous chapter it talked about the family being on welfare at one point. How do you think the family is able to spend money on the Brown Bomber and give extra food to Rufus and his brother at lunch?

Why do you think Byron acts all tough and mean to his younger brother and the other kids at school? He clearly has a sensitive side (puking after killing the bird and taking care of his younger sister), why do you think he tries to hide this?

The title of the story is The Watson's go to Birmingham, do you think Birmingham is in Michigan or do you think it is down south by Mrs. Watson's family?

Up to this point, who is your favorite character and who is your least favorite character? Why?
